Bringing Super Boat International racing to Clearwater Beach was a no-brainer according to Bay Area restaurateur Frank Chivas.
After being involved in the Super Boat International races in Key West, FL, Chivas knew “Clearwater would be the perfect spot to do this” – he also knew exactly who to partner with to make it a thundering success – former Clearwater Mayor and current Bright House Networks Executive, Brian Aungst, Sr.
Last years Clearwater races saw huge crowds turn out to Clearwater Beach, where an estimated 25,000 people on 2,500 boats lined the beaches of the 2.5-mile-long race course. Beaches were lined 20 deep with beach-going spectators while others watched from the comfort of hotels, restaurants and condos along the beach. Crowds for last years event were estimated upwards of 65,000. The races and festival brought a much needed boost to area tourism, according to the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce.
